The Goethe-Institut is the Federal Republic of Germany’s cultural institution operational worldwide.
We promote the study of German abroad and encourage international cultural exchange. We also foster knowledge about Germany by providing information on its culture, society and politics.

With our network of Goethe-Instituts, Goethe-Centres, cultural societies, reading rooms and exam and language centres we have played a central role in the cultural and educational policies of Germany for over 50 years.

We draw our information from the many sections of our cosmopolitan society and culture, combining the experience and ideas of our partners with our cross-cultural expertise. We work on the principle of dialogue and partnership, offering our support to all those actively involved with Germany and its language and culture. We are an autonomous body and politically independent.

Architecture
Not only in Germany urban planning and development deal with shrinking cities, urban restructuring and the architecture of the peripheries.

Dance
Berlin-based choreographer/director Helena Waldmann received an unusual commission: to give a women’s voice and body training workshop in Iran. The upshot is an impressive piece of performance theatre full of gusto and subtle allusions.

The Environment
Atmosphere, hydrosphere and pedosphere: That’s everything – everything that’s important for our Earth. These are the layers of our world that are populated with living organisms – the biosphere, the relationships between humans, animals and plants.

Book Industry
In Aug 2005 the Turkish-German Library brought out its first three books in German translation. In next few years the Turkish-German Library (20 volumes) is planning to put together a collection of novels, short stories, about life in modern Turkey.

Institutes
Goethe-Institut has built up a network of 144 institutes in 80 countries, 128 institutes abroad provide information on the culture, language and other general aspects of Germany. The head office in Munich coordinates all activities
