The mission of Sport England is working with others to create opportunities to get involved in sport, to stay in sport and to excel and succeed in sport at every level.
Sport England is the strategic lead for delivering the Government`s sporting objectives in this country, and we distribute both Lottery and Exchequer funds to sport. Our vision is to make England an active and successful sporting nation. Sport England is the nation`s biggest supporter. Since 1994, we have invested some £2bn into sport in England. Our resources (both human and financial) are allocated in order to meet our business objectives, getting people to start – to improve the health of the nation, particularly for disadvantaged groups; Stay – through a thriving network of clubs, coaches and volunteers, and a commitment to equity and also Succeed in sport – via an infrastructure capable of developing world class performers.
Sport England is divided into six working units Committees, Main board, Regional sports boards, CEO`s office, Executive teams; Formerly know as the council, the main board has overall responsibility for the performance of Sport England and Regional offices.
We share best practice, set standards, build partnerships and promote the benefits of sport, which include healthier living, social inclusion and crime prevention. We also continuously monitor the impact of our investment programmes, conduct ongoing research into participation levels and manage the Sport England website which brings together information about activities, clubs, events and resources.
Common Wealth Youth GamesOne thousand members of the next generation of sporting heroes are heading towards the Australian town of Bendigo. The 2nd Commonwealth Youth Games will see talented youngsters from 24 countries compete in 10 different sports in a six-day competition.
Year Of The VolunteerYV05 is about recognising and thanking volunteers for their hard work, creating new volunteering opportunities and increasing the number of volunteers, particularly those from marginalised groups and among young people.
