The World DAB Forum is an international non-governmental organisation whose objective is to promote, harmonise and co-ordinate the implementation of DAB Digital Radio services.
The goal of the Forum is to convert a brilliant piece of engineering achievement into a worldwide commercial marketing success, to the lasting economic and social benefit of all concerned.
It is dedicated to encouraging international co-operation and co-ordination between sound and data broadcasters, network providers, manufacturers, governments and official bodies, thus gaining consensus for the smooth introduction of DAB. The Forum represents more than one hundred companies and organisations from all sections of the broadcasting industry and from 30 countries. They include public and private broadcasters, DAB receiver and other electronic equipment manufacturers; transmission providers; regulators and governmental bodies.
There are now more than 150 different DAB receivers commercially available. A receiver archive is available on this site, which exhibits the DAB car radios, hi-fi’s, portable receivers, PC cards, and other DAB equipment that have been developed. Furthermore, as well as all European countries, other non-European countries including Canada, Singapore, Taiwan and Australia have launched operational or pilot services. Countries like China and India have begun experimental services and Mexico and Paraguay among other countries have expressed their advanced interest in DAB. DAB, however, uses these effects as reflectors creating multipath reception conditions to optimise receiver sensitivity. Since DAB always selects the strongest regional transmitter automatically, you`ll always be at the focal point of incoming radio signals. DAB is broadcast on terrestrial networks, and you are able to receive it using solely a tiny non-directional stub antenna.
Digital Radio TrailersIn the UK Digital One is advertising digital radio on their network-the largest digital radio network in the world, covering 85% of population and carrying 8 different stations. The trailers ran on Virgin, Talk and Classic FM`s existing Analogue stations.
Dab -An Essential InfrastructureDAB is broadcast on terrestrial networks, with prospects for Satellite broadcasting in the future. You are able to receive the terrestrial Digital Audio Broadcasting programs using a tiny non-directional stub antenna.
Professional Dab EquipmentMany manufacturers are involved in developing professional equipment for DAB networks. The products displayed range from transmission equipment like multiplexers and transmitters, to modules and chipsets for integration by receiver manufacturers.
Dab ReceiversTo listen to DAB services you need a digital radio receiver. Many of the major manufacturers have a DAB receiver on the market. There is now a vast selection of products which will allow you to listen to DAB. Now DAB car radios are available in new cars.
Worlddab IrcThe WorldDAB IRC collects information from many sources, such as the Eureka 147 Consortium and WorldDAB experts, the EBU library, ETSI and various standards bodies, and other related organisations such as the RDS Forum.
Perfect ReceptionDAB eliminate interference and problem of multipath while in a car. It covers wide geographical areas with an even, continual signal. Once full services are up and running, a driver will be able to cross an entire country staying tuned to the same station.
