The VoiceXML Forum is an industry organization formed to create and promote the Voice Extensible Markup Language (VoiceXML).
Voice Extensible Markup Language (VoiceXML) is a markup language for creating voice user interfaces that use automatic speech recognition (ASR) and text-to-speech synthesis (TTS). AT&T, IBM, Lucent and Motorola founded the VoiceXML Forum, a global industry organization, in March, 1999 to promote and to accelerate the adoption of VoiceXML-based applications worldwide.
More than 10,000 commercial VoiceXML-based speech applications have been deployed across a diverse set of industries, including financial services, government, insurance, retail, telecommunications, transportation, travel and hospitality.
VoiceXML is the only XML-based speech language specification to receive the W3C’s Final Recommendation. VoiceXML simplifies speech application development by permitting developers to use familiar Web infrastructure, tools and techniques. VoiceXML also enables distributed application design by separating each application’s user interaction layer from its service logic. Most developers find VoiceXML application development at least three times faster than development in traditional interactive voice response (IVR) environments. For these reasons, VoiceXML has been widely adopted within the speech industry. With the backing and technology contributions of its member companies, the VoiceXML Forum is uniquely positioned to make people`s lives easier through the convenience of internet-based speech services and content.
Voicexml 2.1 FeaturesVoiceXML 2.0 has been successful in enabling the rapid development and deployment of voice applications that handle millions of phone calls every day. The broad implementation experience of VoiceXML 2.0 has led to the development innovative features.
MultimodalThe XHTML+Voice profile brings spoken interaction to standard web content by integrating the mature XHTML and XML-Events technologies with XML vocabularies developed as part of the W3C Speech Interface Framework.
Forum Member BenefitsThe VoiceXML Forum is open to any company in supporting the development and promotion of VoiceXML as an open, broadly supported markup language to allow speech-based applications and Internet information and content being voice and phone accessible.
Forum Platform CertificationVoiceXML Forum members have access to a test harness to assist in local execution of the tests. Alternatively, members can also run the tests directly from the Forum’s website without having to install any software.
Forum Developer CertificationThe VoiceXML Forum is an industry consortium promoting VoiceXML and related languages for promoting VoiceXML and related languages for constructing speech user interfaces primarily for use over the telephone and ensure there are many VoiceXML developers.
Forum TutorialThe VoiceXML Forum is proud to offer a series of interactive tutorials designed to introduce developers to VoiceXML technology. These tutorials are the output of the Forum`s Education Committee. Begin exploring the VoiceXML Forum`s interactive tutorials.
