PDSA cares for the pets of needy people by providing free veterinary services to their sick and injured pets and by promoting responsible pet ownership. Today it is the UK's leading veterinary charity

In 2005 PDSA celebrates 88 years of caring for the sick and injured animals of the poor. We are proud of our heritage, achievements and values. For it is these that have made PDSA what it is today; the UK's leading veterinary charity, carrying out more than one million free veterinary consultations a year. But we cannot afford to stand still as the need for our specialist care is as great as ever.
PDSA’s mission is to care for the animals of needy people by providing free veterinary care to their sick and injured pets and by promoting responsible pet ownership. This we achieve by treating some 4,650 animals every working day. PDSA is the largest private employer of fully qualified veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses. Have a look at our case studies section to see some of the amazing work undertaken by these very special individuals.
PDSA was founded in 1917 by Maria Dickin CBE, an animal welfare pioneer, whose values are still upheld by PDSA today. PDSA is non-campaigning, and non-political. It does not provide preventive treatment, its resources being totally devoted to curative care. PDSA PetAid hospitals are located in most major towns and cities throughout Britain. PDSA PetAid services funds treatment through PetAid practices where our own PetAid hospitals would not be viable. PDSA relies entirely upon public support to maintain its services and without the generosity of pet lovers could not continue its work.
