Oxford University Student Union is the central student union for all Oxford students, and every Oxford student is automatically a member. Its primary purpose is to provide a voice to students.
OUSU (pronouced "ow-zoo") is the University of Oxford's central student union, and every Oxford student is automatically a member. Its primary purpose is to provide a voice to students : OUSU exists to allow Oxford students to campaign on issues that matter to them; OUSU gets students represented to the University, to the NUS, to trade unions, to local and national government, to anyone Oxford students think should be aware of their views.
There is also the Student Advice Service, for providing welfare, and a Business Team, who arrange OUSU's entz and advertising, the money from which makes up the majority of OUSU's income. Because it exists for students, OUSU is entirely student run: all its elected officers, and many of its staff, are either current students or students who've taken a sabbatical year to work for OUSU. And OUSU doesn't work without student involvement: it might seem more remote than your JCR or MCR, but OUSU can always help you and always needs your help.
RulesOUSU is governed according to three documents (the Constitution, the Standing Orders and the OUSU Policy), which are maintained and updated by the President, who also has the power to interpret them.
Ousu CouncilThe Council is the the supreme body of Oxford University Student Union - all officers of OUSU are accountable to it, it passes or ratifies all policy and appointments, it is where Oxford students express their support or disagreement.
Ousu Publications And ServicesOUSU produces more than 20 titles each year, making it Europe's largest student publisher. The publications arm is one of the most developed and profitable areas of the Student Union, providing much of the funding for OUSU's other services and campaigns
GraduatesAll postgraduate students are members of OUSU, and almost every graduate common room (MCR/GCR) is also affiliated to the Student Union. There is no Graduate Union in Oxford, although such an organisation existed until 1994.
Ousu Student Advice ServiceThe service aims to provide a space for students to talk over their worries in confidence, and to offer information on a range of issues which students might encounter during their time at Oxford.
Ousu Freshers' FairOUSU Freshers' Fair is the single biggest event in the Oxford University calendar. The event takes place in the Oxford University Examination Schools, a magnificent building on High Street, is intended for university clubs and societies
