The Faculty was established in 1997, bringing together all the major West London medical schools into one world-class institution. The Faculty is one of Europe's largest medical institutions - in terms of its staff and student population and its research income.
Over 700 Faculty members are active in research, with an annual research income approaching £100 million. Joint research projects with other faculties include initiatives in imaging technology, tissue engineering, bioinformatics and structural biology. Imperial accepts more than 300 undergraduate medical students per year.
Students take a six year course leading to a MB BS degree. This also contains a modular science degree course leading to a BSc. The Graduate School of Life Sciences and Medicine has more than 1,500 postgraduate students. It offers PhD, MPhil and MRes research-based degrees, as well as a wide range of taught Masters courses, including biological, biomedical, environmental and social sciences, basic science, social medicine and clinical specialties.
The Faculty of Medicine is one of the four Faculties of Imperial College. The Faculty has productive relationships with many other departments across the College. In particular, there are firm links with the Faculty of Life Sciences, including the establishment of the Graduate School of Life Sciences and Medicine.
Research In MedicineThe Faculty's mission is to be a national centre for excellence in medical research, development and teaching, and to improve patient care in associated NHS Trust hospitals by providing wide range of multidisciplinary medical scientific skills & research
TeachingTeaching within the Faculty is undertaken in virtual ‘schools’. These 'schools' are contained within, and administered by, the Faculty in liaison with student union representatives.

Foundation SchoolThe North West Thames Foundation School is a partnership between Imperial College London and the London Deanery, incorporating Foundation Training Programmes within linked NHS Trusts and Deaneries, covering a wide geographical area.
